The Hidden Oak Café, nestled within the Bayard Cutting Arboretum at 440 Montauk Hwy, Great River, NY, is a delightful retreat for food lovers and nature enthusiasts alike. Highlighted by its serene setting and friendly atmosphere, this café offers a diverse menu that caters to various palates. Customers rave about the flavorful baked goods, with the scones and quiches earning particular praise for their generous portions and taste.
Reviewers have enjoyed lovely outdoor seating, although some suggest that the views from under the awning could be improved. The café excels in fresh salads and hearty soups, with a commendable Lobster Bisque making a memorable impression. However, there's room for improvement, especially regarding sandwich variety, as feedback indicated some dishes lacked flavor.
Service at The Hidden Oak is consistently praised, with staff members noted for their attentiveness, particularly during special events like baby showers. Overall, patrons recommend the café for its cozy ambiance, reasonable prices, and the perfect spot to rejuvenate after exploring the arboretum. Whether it's a casual lunch or an elegant tea service, The Hidden Oak Café promises a satisfying experience that delights both the palate and the spirit.

Great time at the cafe. Sat outside, a little chilly deep under the awning and not the most amazing view than the direct balcony areas but still very nice. Great break space between hiking around. The quiche and scones were great, scone could be split between two even since it was quite large.

A wonderful little cafe with gorgeous views and a good selection of food. I've only been to the arboretum, but I was pleasantly surprised the first time I tried the cafe. Baked goods, sandwiches, soups, salad, teas and coffees. The salad was delicious and fresh, the soup was also very good. I got a large portion, the price was fair. I would definitely return to this establishment. Beautiful scenery!!

A nice spot for tea and/or a meal in the Manor House at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum. Seating available indoors and out. Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Some standard and reasonably-priced food options, great assortment of tea and baked goods; slices of crumb and Kahlua cakes were both delicious!

We had the Tea Service. The teas and scones were good. The sandwiches were so so—no flavor at all. The cucumber “sandwich” was tasty. We also ordered Lobster Bisque and that was delicious. Overall, it was a pleasant meal—especially for the price. Not enough variety in the sandwiches. They should adjust that. The tea service is not as elaborate or elegant as other places but for the modest price, well worth it. I probably wouldn’t do the tea service again but generally, the food and tea/coffee is good here. Recommend.

I cannot say enough about the staff at the Hidden Oak Cafe. I hosted a baby shower in the room (annex) adjacent to the main house. Every detail was considered. The staff was courteous and attentive. This was a Tea and the food was very good. Can’t beat this venue. Thank you to Danielle and her team. Everyone had a great time.

A lovely spot for lunch, brunch, or tea at the Bayard Cutting arboretum. There is seating inside and out (I sat outside with a beautiful view of the lawn and the river). The curry chicken salad sandwich was very good, the service was terrific, and the view could not be beat

After taking in the scenery of the arboretum, I went to have lunch at The Hidden Oak Cafe. It was amazing! The hostess Ciara greeted me with a warm friendly smile . And my waitress Emily was kind and attentive. Service was 10/10 and so was the meal

It was a pleasant surprise to discover the Hidden Oak Cafe by accident when we went the Bayard Aboretum for a visit. The food was inexpensive, good and the setting was beautiful. They also offer Victorian tea by reservation.
